Thomas Ewers

Keeping ahead with a good portion of fortune

Typically, the passion for whisky does not lie in the genes of East-Westphalians and it is also not a matter of chance that Thomas Ewers developed his burning passion for the „water of life“. With reference to his fine „whisky nose“  and trained palate close friends call him a whisky talent. Always being modest, Thomas finds himself „somewhat capable“ separating the wheat from the chaff.

At least one of the above centers around his whole life and is owed to a vacation trip in 2003 during which he enjoyed his first Single Malt. Not knowing yet that his cause would change, it took the next dram, a 10 year old Aberlour served in a fine London restaurant, to stage Thomas Ewers for an entire new life. Ignited by the strong appeal of whisky, his natural talent has sent him on a new professional mission, and great success is rewarding him now for the energy and passion he is putting in the business.

„It is fascinating how different each cask is presenting itself. Scotch Whisky is not just a spirit but a mythical drink.“

Which is Thomas Ewers‘ favourite whisky? „My favourite whisky is always the next one“, says Thomas with a smile. Especially whiskies distilled in his year of birth, 1970, attract him with enthusiasm but rarely just come by and knock at his door – similar to the countless awards for him and his brand MALTS OF SCOTLAND. It takes hard consistent work, determination and best relationships with Scottish distilleries.

Ewers and MALTS OF SCOTLAND have repeatingly received the prestigious award „Independent Bottler of the Year“ from the leading WHISKY Magazine. Nominated by at least two members and approved by an expert committee of the Keepers of the Quaich, Thomas Ewers has been appointed as a Keeper in 2016 for being „one of the leading voices of Scotch whisky in Germany“. The Keepers of the Quaich are an exclusive and international society that recognises those that have shown outstanding commitment to Scotch Whisky.

Beyond honour and appreciation, the membership of the Keepers of the Quaich is a further key door opener into the world of whiskies and, potentially, even more exciting casks to be bottled.

… the story to be continued.
