There are many stories and tales about the Hebridean Isle of Islay. Some are true, but others – well, who knows? 

We have looked more closely into some of these stories, seeking the truth in books, museums, internet searches and in chats with older Islay residents. It is not always easy to shinelight into historical mysteries; some are maybe more comfortable remaining the dark. 

But Malts of Scotland have at least made a start.

Place names and folk memories of events on Islay are often connected to mysteries and obscure legends. We have foundstories about sea dragons, supernatural creatures, great heroes and many whisky and distillery tales; but who knows what what was real and what is just fairy tale? 

We start our range with SCARABUS. Today there is a farm with this name and between 1817 and 1818 there was a distillery; but what about the deeper past? The name means ‘farm by the rocky ridge’ – but we have heard other, darkerrumours.

And so, we have created an Islay blended malt that tastes like whisky from long disappeared distilleries. Without too much stretch of the imagination it might also smell like the breath from an Islay dragon and taste like magical drops of dragon blood….. we are not afraid to explore the DARK SIDE OF ISLAY.

Three different bottlings at an easy drinking strength of 46% make up our Basic Line.

Not single casks but a fine tuned mix of casks from different Scottish distillieries which have been carefully selected by Thomas Evers delivers the whisky into this line.

While single cask bottlings are by nature limited in their availability, the value proposition for Basic Line bottlings is that they can be more easily and repeatingly obtained.

Our 10 year old MoS-Peat stands in for the Inner Hebrides island of Islay. Ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks matured whiskies from three different distilleries which reflect the typical characteristics and and rough life of The Whisky Island. Peat guaranteed!

Our MoS-Sherry is a 15 year old malt whisky from three Scottish distillieries and blended from casks which contained Sherry in their previous life. High quality guaranteed!

Our MoS-Classic is an „adult“ of 18 years.  It‘s the magic 5 which makes it a complex Blended Scotch Malt Whisky. Whisky from 5 different distilleries from 5 different regions in one bottle. Complexity guaranteed!

There is debate between the Irish and the Scots of who was first in whisky distillation. For sure, Irish whiskey used to be a drink for the masses with quantity dominating quality. However, some Irish distillieries have taken us as MALTS OF SCOTLAND by surprise with their quality.

After intensive studies of the Irish water of life, we have aquired some excellent casks which we would like to share with you. Since many of those do not allow us to state the distillery on the label, we have named them „John Doe“ and „Jane Doe“ in analogy to unidentifiable, nameless persons.

The „male“ casks (John Doe) are of ex-Bourbon nature and carry an appealing Single Malt Whiskey while whisky from the „female“ casks (Jane Doe) delivers a sweetness typical to Sherry and Rum casks bottlings, and others. By that, Irish Single Malt Whiskey presents its own special flavours.

Now you will understand why we had to revise our earlier misjudgement of Irish whiskey, and we are making our apology by regular visits to the Emerald Isle.

American whisky is one-dimensional and pretty woody in taste.

Let‘s do away with that prejudice! If one makes the effort to search for the good, it can be found, and we have found very good whiskey all over the United States.

Bourbon (Whiskey) is substantially different to Single Malt Whisky, not only in spelling. It is made from a grain mixture with a minimum of 51% maize (American: corn) besides rye or barley. By law, casks must be made of new American white oak wood (Quercus alba) which will be charred prior to 1st filling. Only for socalled American Light Whiskey casks are allowed to be re-used for a 2nd fill.

The label „Whiskeys of America“ refers to our bottlings from casks with whiskey made in USA. Within this range you will find the results of some of our exciting finishing experiments. After maturation in new oak wood the whiskey has undergone a finish maturation in different casks which contained, for example, rum, sherry or port wine before. You will be amazed by the unexpected great flavours. Surely, some Americans were.

Surprise, surprise! India is the world leading producer of whiskies by volume. Most probably, whisky has proliferated across India under to the British influence, and the drink found many friends in the Indian society.

Not all whiskies of Indian make are in accordance with our standards but we found what we were looking for – at one of the best Indian distilleries in Goa. A classic whisky and even a peated expression made from imported Scottish malted barley.

Whisky maturation in India takes less time due to the climatic conditions. Cask fillings are rarely older than 5 – 6 years.

Where would you have the opportunity to touch a cask full of whisky, smell its aroma and take pictures of it? Only very few Scottish distillieres are offering that unique experience on site. At our Warehouse Shop in Paderborn we are making this happen for you, and if the sampling is to your liking you may fill a bottle for yourself, cork it up, encapsulate and label it.

Visit our warehouse and watch hundreds of casks while they are quietly sleeping. Leaving with a self-bottled whisky is a great memento with a nice souvenir for yourself or your beloved ones at home.

Please note a subtle difference:  When bottled outside of Scotland like here in Germany, Scottish whisky is not allowed to be referred to as „Scotch“ although the bottle content and its quality is the same.

Why exclusive at shop only? The answer is quite simple. We love to keep in personal touch with our customers through dialogue in our stilish Warehouse Lounge. It is just the right place to relax and sample whiskies with some expert chit-chat.

It is an opportunity, if not a „must“, to sample our Warehouse Range at our warehouse. We will not rest satisfied until you are holding up your bottle of choice. This is why the Warehouse Range is not accessible online or by other shops but only at our place in Paderborn.  Due to the exclusivity and quality of the range, demand often challenges availability. Yet, we are trying hard to replenish our stock.

True masterpieces of the Scottish art of whisky distillation which have been matured in outstanding casks are the diamonds of our choice. Our search in the hidden corners of those many Scottish warehouses is occasionally rewarded by the discovery of such diamonds which meet our stringent cask selection criteria.

For us, it is not an everday affair to sample such superb whiskies but a privilege and very special highlight which we like to share with you through extremely limited bottlings from  „Warehouse Diamonds“ range.

Whisky clubs across Europe have fancied that line. Casks have been jointly selected with individualised bottlings and labelling.  It has always been a lot of fun to create some wonderful bottlings.
